GURU SHEELA CHANDRASHEKHAR
Sheela Chandrasekhar has been in the dance routine for the past over thirty years. She initially trained under Smt Krishnaveni of Mysore and learned the fundamentals by the celebrated Guru Late Sri V.S. Koushik of Sanathana Kalakshetra.
She owes her advanced training in Bharatanatyam to Guru B Bhanumati and has been under her tutelage for over 30 years.
She has attended numerous advanced workshops conducted by stalwarts in the field like Padmabhushan Kalanidhi Narayanan and Guru Smt Bragha Bessel (abhinaya), Late Smt Kamala Rani of Kalakshetra (nattuvangam) and Smt Savitri Jagannatha Rao (padams) also of Kalakshetra. Presently she is taking training in nattuvangam from the well-known mridangam maestro, Vidwan Sri N Narayanaswamy.
She has completed her Master’s degree in dance (Bharatanatyam) having secured the first rank in the Bangalore University and was awarded a gold medal for the same.
She has also been the accredited resource person and coordinator for the post graduate courses of the Kalai Kaviri College of Fine Arts affiliated to the Bharatidasan University, Trichinapalli.
She is now a working as a visiting faculty at the Jain university in the department of dance for their Post graduation Course.
As a performer,Sheela has rendered over 700 stage performances both Solo and as a member of "Bharatanjali",the group dance feature of Nrityakalamandiram. She has performed in most of the major national and international dance festivals and for numerous productions for Doordarshan.
She is a part of a performing troupe "Aadya" formed by three senior disciples of Guru Bhanumathi with a focus on the subtler and spiritual aspects of Bharatanatyam.
She has toured the UK and USA several times not only for performances,but also for cultural exchange programmes and workshops.
Sheela Chandrasekhar is appearing as one of the judges in Sri Shankara TV's Bharathanatyam reality show "Natyaratna"where aspiring young dancers seek to showcase their talent to ascend the ladder towards wider recognition.
AWARDS AND RECOGNITION
The Sur Singar Samsad, Mumbai, recently awarded her the 'Singarmani',2005 title where a handful of artists from all over India were selected out of more than 80 candidates.
Mahila Shree Ratna Award-by the World Academy of science,Humanities,Education and Literature,2010.
She has been recently felicitated by Nrityakala Parishath who conferred her the title 'Nritya Nipune',2014.

She has choreographed a number of Padams,Varnams,Devaranamas,Thillanas,Krithis and other dance composotions as a part of Margams.
At present,apart from giving stage performnaces,as Deputy Director,she is also assisting Guru Bhanumati in coaching students at Nrityakalamandiram and in choreography of productions not only for Bharatanjali also for various stage and Doordarshan artistes.
Drawing from her Guru's glorius lineage of Padmashree Dandayudhapaani Pillai,Sheela has imbibed the essence of Nritta,Nritya and Abhinaya bringing to the fore these sensitive aspects of the art and raising it to spiritual heights.She hopes to makea ssignificant contribution to the field of dance through her stage performances and academic involvement.
